Lloyd Center for the Enviroment Protecting nature through research and education |
|
...with unparalleled water views and 55 acres of unspoiled forest and salt marsh to be discovere at its coastal nature preserve.
The Lloyd Center serves individuals, agencies, and organizations in southeastern New England (Rhode Island to Boston to Cape Cod). It is the only area organization focused on educating the public about coastal and watershed issues, and conducting research on coastal ecosystems and endangered species. The Center cooperates on a broader level in coastal, environmental, and educational programming throughout New England, nationally and internationally.
The Lloyd Center offers:
1) A beautiful trail system through 55 acres of maritime forest bordering an estuary, and a view-scape recognized as one of 15 "Special Places" by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts;
2) Exhibits which highlight local natural resources, Lloyd Center research and education projects;
3) Diverse contract, fee-based and free-of-charge activities, such as guided weekly walks, summer camps, canoe trips, seal watches and lectures;
4) School-related programs for teachers and students; and
5) Collections and expertise that make the Lloyd Center a resource for both environmental professionals and amateurs, researchers, interns, government officials, activists and the general public.
To ensure that everyone can enjoy our coastal resources, the Lloyd Center charges no entrance fee to the building, grounds, or our Celebrate Science workshop series. We also encourage everyone, including the handicapped, to volunteer at the Lloyd Center and the opportunity to become personally involved in our coastal habitat environment, research and activities.
Our school-based activities further expand our reach to urban audiences. A scholarship program also provides space for ten urban New Bedford students, mostly African-American and other minorities, in our Summer Program.
